CNB chimes in on Aaron Carter’s death, uses his drug abuse to give anti-drug PSA

Singapore’s drug enforcement regime is cutting in at every chance it gets to preach its drug-free agenda.

Most recently, the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) last night spoke out about the death of singer Aaron Carter and used his history of substance abuse to warn citizens about the dangers of drugs, even though his death was not confirmed to be caused by drug abuse .

CNB cited Channel NewsAsia’s report of Carter’s elder brother and Backstreet Boys member Nick Carter commenting on the death and their “complicated relationship.” The drug enforcement agency alluded to Nick’s devastation about Aaron’s substance abuse issues.

“Aaron Carter had been struggling with substance abuse. Drug abuse does not just affect abusers. The hidden victims, the ones who care for us, are affected too,” CNB wrote in the caption.

“Let us band together and work towards a #DrugFreeSG.” they added.

Carter was found dead in his bathroom on Saturday in Lancaster, California, after police received a report of a drowning. hey what 34

Little is known about the cause of his death but police said no foul play was suspected and have not mentioned anything about it being related to a drug overdose.

Carter had reportedly been struggling with addictions and sought help at rehab several times in recent years.

Last month, Minister for Law K. Shanmugam also took the opportunity to speak up about the mass shooting in a Thailand daycare that killed at least 36.

Shanmugam linked the shooter’s meth drug charge to the violence he inflicted, even though reports did not mention that the shooter was under the influence of drugs at the time of the killing.

“I cannot emphasize this enough – there are good reasons why Singapore maintains a tough stance towards drug consumption and trafficking,” Shanmugam wrote.

Some found his statement to be “classless”, “tone deaf” and also opportunistic to use a tragic event to further his drug-free agenda.
