Great gift will go to the mental health of young people in medical school

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) – A $ 34.2 million donation will establish an adolescent mental health center at Indiana University’s Medical School in Evansville.

Evansville-based Bill and Mary Stone announced the donation Friday.

The donation will donate three chairs and support six other youth psychiatrists or fellowships in southwest Indiana, where several counties lack psychiatrists.

The psychiatrists will also conduct research focusing on bipolar and other mood disorders.

The center will “seek to fundamentally change and improve the standard of care for people with bipolar disorder and to dramatically improve access to psychiatric care for children and adolescents in southwest Indiana,” said a press release.

The gift is one of the greatest in medical school history.
