Inquest being held next month into five inmate drug overdose deaths at Lindsay jail

A joint coroner’s inquiry has been scheduled for next month to examine five drug poisoning deaths that occurred over a one-year period several years ago at the Central East Correctional Center in Lindsay.

Steven Frenette, 35, died on Sept. 20, 2018; Daniel Foreman, 39, died on Oct. 3, 2018; David Bullen, 50, died on Dec. 29, 2018; Jonathan McConnell, 36, died on April 28, 2019; and Susan Borja, 50, died on Aug. 10, 2019.

An inquiry into their deaths is mandatory under the Coroners Act.

The inquiry will examine the circumstances surrounding their deaths. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing future deaths from occurring in similar circumstances.

The inquest will start at 9:30 am Nov. 14 and is expected to last 15 days and hear from about 25 witnesses, according to the Ministry of the Solicitor General.

dr Bob Reddoch will be the presiding officer. Jai Dhar and Indira Stewart will be inquest counsel.
