Suspected drug overdose turns into murder investigation
APD reports 114th murder in 2021

It started with a suspected drug overdose. It has become a homicide investigation, unofficially the 114th murder in Albuquerque in 2021. Albuquerque police responded to a call Friday afternoon on the 1000 block on Maggies Ave., NE. After gaining entry to the home, they found a deceased victim. An APD spokesman said initial statements from friends suggested a possible overdose of the drug. However, this morning the medical investigator’s office found the victim died of a gunshot wound to the head. APD has now initiated a preliminary investigation into murder.
